My name is Sam Soltero, and I’m a rising senior at Riverwood International Charter School in Sandy Springs, GA. This website is my portfolio.
About me
In addition to being a dedicated student, I enjoy many of my school’s extracurricular programs. I am the secretary of the Riverwood Thespian Society and the vice president of Riverwood Model UN – you can follow us on Instagram here! I also lead a peer tutoring program here at Riverwood, where I tutor students in all levels of math and help connect students in all subjects to the tutors who will work best for them.
In my free time, I am constantly writing, coding, and making music. Soon, I’ll add some examples of my work here, but for now you’re just going to have to take my word for it. I also love learning more about the world and reading anything science fiction – some of my favorite works I’ve found online are Isabel J. Kim’s “Day Ten Thousand”, Winston Rowntree’s “Message 652”, and qntm’s Fine Structure series.
What’s a Feghoot?
A feghoot is a story that seems to be going somewhere with a plot, but at the very end, reveals itself to have all been an elaborate buildup to a pun. Feghoots got their origin in science fiction pulp magazines of the 1950s and ’60s thanks to the author Reginald Bretnor, whose character Ferdinand Feghoot went on strange adventures across time and space across a series of short stories. My love for these magazines, and for the (usually really bad) puns Bretnor used, inspired me to call this website Feghoot.
